FOR the past week, a pair of Royal Air Force Lockheed Martin C-130Js have been lifting out of RAF Brize Norton.

Qualified Flying Instructors from 24 Squadron, Royal Air Force take 47 Squadron crews took the planes through their paces.

Flying in formation allows aircraft to share lookout, mutual defence and allows concentration of airborne forces or airdrop onto an objective in the shortest possible time.

Formation is a highly technical skill to learn, but the RAF C130J force are lucky to be able to train in the UK low flying system and in the state-of-the art C130J simulators which can be networked together to allow synthetic training before crews fly the sorties live.
