Herefordshire walking group to feature on BBC programme

Walk Hay specialise in providing expertly led guided walking in the Hay-on-Wye area.

The group will feature on BBC One’s Escape to the Country, where Alistair Appleton, Jules Hudson, Nicki Chapman, and Jonnie Irwin help house buyers who want to swap city living for a home in the country.

The episode, set to air in Autumn, see's Sarah Price interviewed as a local and as a walk leader, asking them questions about the local area, what it was like to live here, what activities there were etc.

“Unfortunately, we didn't get to go walking, as that's not the format of Escape to the Country now,” said Ms Price.

The group takes locals and tourists on guided countryside walks in the area, including Herefordshire.

She started up last year after re-training to take up the passion as a profession.

“The groups real drive is to get those who would like to start walking, or who are hesitant to walk in the countryside for whatever reason, walking out there, as there are so many health benefits to walking in the countryside,” said Ms Price.

Hay-on-Wye, on the Herefordshire-Powys border, was put on the map when the town’s famous literary festival began.

This year big names such as Stephen Fry, Benedict Cumberbatch and Nicola Sturgeon will be at the festival.

In previous episodes of Escape to the Country, Herefordshire’s Wye Valley has also featured.
