A LOOSE horse has caused chaos on the M5 this morning as the motorway was closed.
National Highways have confirmed that there was an incident involving a loose horse on the M5.
Traffic was being held in both directions between junction 5 for Droitwich and junction 6 for Worcester.
West Mercia Police said junction 5 was currently closed in both directions.
A spokesperson from National Highways said: "The horse has now been captured and a horse box is on its way to transport it off the motorway.
"The road was closed for safety reasons of course but we should be able to release traffic shortly.
"We believe the horse has come from a nearby farm."
There are delays in both directions on the M5 near Junction 5 and 6 between Droitwich Spa and Worcester.
There is approximately 4.5 miles of congestion southbound and 3 miles of congestion northbound.
National Highways recommend that drivers allow an extra 45 minutes onto their journeys.
They said: "There are long delays on the #M5 in both directions, due to the ongoing incident between J5 #DroitwichSpa and J6 #Worcester.
"Traffic remains held. There is approx. 4.5 miles of congestion southbound and 3 miles northbound.
"Please allow an extra 45 minutes on to your journey."
