Terrence Higgins Trust is looking for a new Health Promotion Specialist - could it be you?
The UK’s leading HIV and sexual health charity, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary this summer, is looking for a new specialist for its Hertfordshire Service.
The team is on the lookout for someone who has a keen interest in sexual health outcomes as well as reaching vulnerable and hard to reach communities.
Here's everything you need to know about the Terrence Higgins Trust and how you can join the team.
Who is the Terrence Higgins Trust?
The charity was set up back in 1982 following the death of Terry Higgins, the first-named person to die from an AIDS-related illness in the UK.
Formed by Terry’s partner and friends, it was the first HIV support organisation in Europe to respond to the HIV epidemic.
They’ve been on the frontlines ever since; pushing for better care and treatment for people living with HIV as well as challenging the stigma and discrimination around the virus.
They run services that include in-person and online support groups, advice and information, mentoring, and counselling.
They also do regular outreach around the region, including Hertfordshire University and local supermarkets, providing information and advice as well as testing kits and condoms.
The charity is commissioned by Hertfordshire Public Health and works with all 12 of the region’s Healthy Hubs, where people can access free dual testing kits.
Terrence Higgins Trust is currently running a campaign in Hertfordshire to raise awareness of a free pill that protects against HIV.
In Hertfordshire, PrEP is available for free through sexual health clinics alongside confidential advice about how it works and if it might be suitable.
What is a Health Promotion Specialist?
A Health Promotion Specialist will help with supporting, designing and delivering a range of health promotion services across Hertfordshire.
The services are aimed at increasing awareness and access to sexual health testing and support services.
The trust is looking for a confident communicator, who enjoys meeting new people from varied backgrounds and in different establishments.
You would need to work closely with other professionals, organisations and stakeholders.
The new specialist will also liaise directly with local communities and individuals to meet the needs of key target groups who are at most risk of poor sexual health and HIV outcomes.
Your job will be to represent the Terrence Higgins Trust and other local partner organisations at both public and at professional networking events and meetings.
How to apply to be a Health Promotion Specialist
You should live in or near Hertfordshire and be able to work from the Watford based office.
You should also be available for occasional out of office hours sessions.
The role will require you to undergo a DBS check if you're successful.
It is on a part-time fixed-term basis until March 2023 with a salary of £20,082.
