TRAIN enthusiasts were thrilled on Wednesday as they got chance to see an iconic steam engine pass through Herefordshire.
The 70000 Britannia was taking the Saphos Tour Welsh Marches Whistler, through the rolling hills of Shropshire into Herefordshire before making a visit to Bristol.
The train came into the county through Woofferton before passing through Leominster at 10.33am, Moreton-on-Lugg at 10.40am, Hereford at 10.51am.
It will then pass Tram Inn at 12.01pm and Pontrilas at 12.06pm.
The train will roll into Bristol at around 1.27pm, with the service having left Preston at 5.10am.
On its return journey, the tour, pulled by a diesel locomotive, will pass through Hereford at 6.37pm.
The service is due back at Preston at 11.40pm.
The 70000 Britannia was built more than 20 years later in 1951 and was initially based at Stratford to work East Anglian expresses to Norwich and Great Yarmouth.
But 15 years later, Britannia was withdrawn from service.
