PEOPLE were out sunbathing in parks around Hereford today as the city experienced its hottest day of the year.

As temperatures hit 29C today (June 17) Cathedral close saw people sunbathing and relaxing in the sun, while Bishop's Meadow and Cathedral had a fewer than hot days in previous years.

The ice cream van took its usual spot at the end of Victoria Bridge, which was met by passersby looking to get their cool sweet fix for the day.

Meanwhile, people cooled off in the river below.

The Met Office is urging Brits to take care this weekend ahead of a “dangerous” 34C heatwave this weekend.

The weather agency has issued the health alert warning to large parts of England with the hottest temperatures ever recorded since records began are expected today (June 17).

In Hereford temperatures look set to hit highs of 28C, with the Met Office predicting overnight lows of 17C.

It will be a dry day with very warm spells of strong sunshine, but there may be some cloud through the morning, turning breezier by the afternoon.

Cloud will build in the evening and overnight, with a risk of a small shower. But it will be a warm evening and feel muggy during the night.

Tomorrow it will be a cloudy day with outbreaks of rain, which will be heavy at times with a risk of thunder. It will feel noticeably cooler than Friday.

For Sunday and Tuesday, it will stay largely dry with sunny spells and feel warm, with light wind.
