A LOCAL councillor has already said she is "raring to go" and "looking forward to being Hereford's next MP" after Boris Johnson is set to resign as Conservative Party leader.
He will remain as Prime Minister until a successor is in place, expected to be by the time of the Conservative Party conference in October.
A No 10 source said Mr Johnson spoke to Sir Graham Brady, chairman of the Conservative 1922 Committee, to inform him of his decision.
“The Prime Minister has spoken to Graham Brady and agreed to stand down in time for a new leader to be in place by the conference in October,” a No 10 source said.
Mr Johnson will make a statement later today confirming the decision, but he yesterday said that a general election was not going to happen this year.

On Wednesday, she tweeted: "Raring to go! Looking forward to being Hereford's next MP!"
Then, speaking to the Hereford Times on Thursday morning, the city and county councillor said: "What a couple of days it’s been! General Election? Bring it on!
"Hereford and South Herefordshire want a fresh new start, and I can provide that as your next MP.
"At the last General Election in 2019 some of us were warning of the danger of putting into power a lying populist narcissist. Jesse Norman assured us that Boris Johnson was a decent man who would be an excellent Prime Minister.
"Can we trust a party that’s taken 3 years to wake up to reality? People have had enough of government by slogan.
"Herefordshire deserves better than the chaos we’ve been watching in horror – let’s have a lively debate now about what we want, and make sure the next people we elect to run the country actually care about us."
Latest reports from Westminster suggest that Boris Johnson is planning on making ministerial appointments today as he carries on as Prime Minister.
That is despite more than 50 resignations, and My Johnson will resign once a leadership contest has taken place for the Conservative Party.
