A MAIN shopping street in a Herefordshire town centre will close for a day later this month, Herefordshire Council has said.
In a public notice published in the Hereford Times, the council said B4234 High Street in Ross-on-Wye would close on Sunday, July 17.
The closure, outside number 25, was needed due to new connection works by Wales & West Utilities, it said.
The closure will also be needed due to the "likelihood of danger to the public while the works are taking place", it said.
The diversion for traffic affected is via Wilton Road, onto the A40, A4137, B4229 and back onto the B4234.
That is a diversion of some 11 miles, via Whitchurch and Goodrich.
Long diversions such as this are usually due to the need for them to be on the same, or higher, classes of roads.
With High Street, a B-road, being closed, the diversion has to be via A and B roads, and not via smaller town centre roads which are C or unclassified.
