TEMPERATURES in Herefordshire could reach 35C on Monday and Tuesday, with the Met Office issuing an amber extreme heat warning.
The warning, in force from today (Sunday) until Tuesday, means the Met Office is expecting population-wide adverse health effects are likely to be experienced.
The warning covers East Wales and all of England south of Middlesborough and Lancaster, except for West Cornwall.
The Met Office warns that some exceptionally high temperatures are possible both by day and by night, and this is likely to bring widespread impacts to people and infrastructure.
In Herefordshire, places such as Ledbury, Ross-on-Wye, Leominster and Bromyard are expected to see highs of 35C on Monday and Tuesday, set to be the hottest days of the week.
Hereford is also forecast highs of 35C, while Kington and Hay-on-Wye face highs of 34C.
It means that a new record high temperature could be set in the county this coming week.
The Met Office said that the top temperature on record in Herefordshire is 34.4C at Preston Wynne on August 3, 1990.
At the Shobdon station, the top temperature ever recorded is 33.8C on July 19, 2007.
But Shobdon has a forecasted high of 36C on Tuesday, meaning that the Met Office thinks a new record could be set there.
