A HEREFORDSHIRE hotel will be offering free dog ice creams to four-legged guests as extreme heat hits the county.

Colwall Park Hotel is offering guests staying at the hotel dog-friendly ice creams free-of charge to enjoy during the heatwave this week.

It will also be offering local dog walkers and their dogs the chance to take refuge at the hotel and have unlimited access to damp towels, cooling mats, water bowls with ice placed all around the hotel and lots of treats.

Following guidance issued by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA), the Herefordshire hotel is encouraging guests to walk their dogs during cooler times of the day to reduce the risk of heatstroke and burning paws.

Matt Homans, general manager at Colwall Park, said: "As a hotel that prides itself for its walking breaks, with temperatures only set to rise further this next week, we thoroughly encourage everyone to be mindful when it comes to walking your dogs.

"Whether that’s by providing alternative exercise or just going for a dog walk earlier in the morning when it is cooler, remember you can pop by Colwall Park to take a break and cool down together in our dog-friendly pub.

"We will be giving all of our four-legged guests the opportunity to take full advantage of free ice cream but for those who just want to pop by for a rest, please ask reception for some cooling treats."
