A HEREFORDSHIRE cider maker has been awarded a stunning three stars for two of their ciders at this year's Great Taste Awards.
Dorstone's Pips Cider said they were proud to announce that all their ciders have been awarded stars at this year’s Great Taste Awards, with their Medium and Sweet offerings the only ciders in the country to win coveted three-star awards.
Three stars is the highest award possible and these products are described as “exquisite”.
Their Dry and the relatively recently launched Celebration cider both achieved an 'outstanding' two-star award.
Out of 14,000 products entered for the 2022 awards just 241 were awarded three stars and, in Herefordshire, only four three-star awards were achieved in total.
Cider maker Alistair Phillips was delighted with the results.
“This is the first time that all of our ciders have achieved such high awards in the same year, and we are thrilled that two ciders achieved three stars," he said.
He also appreciates the excellent feedback the judges offer to the producers.
“They said that our Medium cider has a beautiful, dark bronze colour that effervesces gently in the glass," Mr Phillips said.
"It has a deep bouquet of apple orchard fruit. It has sweet and bitter tannin notes in equal measure, balanced beautifully with the sweetness. We love it. This is as cider should be!”

“For the Sweet cider they described it as deep rose gold in colour, with an appealing characterful, typically Herefordshire cider nose. Wonderfully full and complex on the palate with sweetness and bitterness playing in yin-yang balance. The body is superbly satisfying, the finish stunning in its length, which is almost chewy in apple skin flavours. Quite brilliant. A really cleverly and expertly produced drink.
"We really value these comments from the experts as it helps us to understand our products much better and we can use that feedback to continuously improve the cider for future years."
