SCARECROWS have popped up throughout Herefordshire in a bid to stop speeders.
Dormington, between Hereford and Ledbury, now has a scarecrow in Native American dress holding a 40mph sign while it points an arrow at drivers.
A spokesperson from Dormington and Mordiford parish council said the scarecrow is in place to deter people from going over the speed limit as a 60mph zone meets the village on both sides.
Scarecrows have the support of the local community and are proven to be effective in other parts of Herefordshire.

The speed limit in Dormington is 40 mph, and although police speed checks rarely catch anyone speeding, their presence is greatly welcomed by locals.
“We have had speed monitoring checks done too, and whilst this show there is a speed problem, catching offenders is another matter, as it can happen at almost any time of day or night," said the spokesperson.
“Over the years, we have had a couple of deaths on the Dormington road stretch and the risks to pedestrians and resident drivers seem even greater now with more vehicles and more people walking and cycling.
“Ideally, we would like to slow traffic down to well below 40 if we can. The scarecrow (there may be more) is an eye-catching way of making a statement.”
