A MAIN road in a Herefordshire town centre will close for nine days later this month for work to be carried out at new houses.

Herefordshire Council said Old Road in Bromyard will be shut for nine days from Saturday (August 27) for utility connection works.

The work will be carried out at the new homes at "Blossom Way" in Old Road, the B4214.

RELATED NEWS:

The site has long been a contentious point in Bromyard, with planning permission existing for some 15 years before a brick was laid.

There have been several attempts to take on the project, but start-stop groundwork from different companies led to then-ward councillor Alan Seldon raising concerns over the structural safety of the site, which is below Clover Terrace, in 2021.

OTHER NEWS:

But after the site was reinforced with large blocks, the six homes now look to be nearing completion.

As the homes are built, the nine-day road closure will see a diversion via Cruxwell Street, Rowberry Street, Sherford Street, the A44 bypass and back onto the B4214 and vice versa.

Herefordshire Council said the closure is needed due to utility connection works and the likelihood of danger to the public while the works are taking place.
