A FARM worker has been banned from the roads after he was caught drug-driving in Hereford.

Fletcher Jones admitted drug-driving when he appeared before magistrates in Hereford.

Jones had been stopped behind the wheel of a silver Vauxhall Corsa by police who thought he was not wearing a seatbelt in Hereford's Yazor Road at 3.20pm on March 19, prosecutor Mark Hambling said.

He was taken into custody in Hereford after failing a roadside drug test, and an evidential blood test revealed he had 29 microgrammes of cocaine per litre of blood. The legal limit is 10.

OTHER NEWS:

Philip Cornell, for Jones, said the 19-year-old had taken cocaine on a social basis some days before he was stopped and accepted he would be banned.

"He is a farm worker and has lost his job as he will be losing his licence," he said.

"He has always worked and will be trying to get another job. There is no evidence of any pattern of offending in relation to drugs and this has been a lesson for him."

Jones, of Wyeside Gardens, Hay-on-Wye, was fined £120 and disqualified from driving for 12 months. He must also pay costs of £135 and a £34 victim surcharge.
