THE Butter Market in Hereford's High Town is full of wonderful stalls selling different items at affordable prices.

With the cost-of-living affecting many people’s lives it is great to have somewhere to shop where prices are reasonable, and the shopkeepers are knowledgable.

I spent an afternoon in this long-established friendly place to see what I could get for under £10.

Mailes Brothers

Ralph Lloyd is the owner of the oldest stall Mailes Brothers, with 40 years behind him.

His half a dozen of jumbo eggs is one product to catch anyone’s eye.

At £2.20, with some are said to have three yolks, they had to make it on my list of things to in my £10 bundle.

Hillman’s Florists

Just opposite from Mailes Brothers is Hillman’s Florists, which has a selection of fresh and artificial flowers. I picked up a lovely bunch from the clearance section for just £1.

Q Comics

Just round the corner is a comic store offering a range of classic titles priced from 50p to much more, all of which stand out with their eye-catching covers.

Andy Cumber, from Hereford, opened Q Comics in the Butter Market in 2019 after spending most of his life travelling the globe in the military.

I was chuffed with my Walking Dead comic that I bought for just £3.

Broughtons

Broughtons is another long-established stall in the Butter Market.

Claire Bishop took it on from her mother, who had run it for 25 years.

Their family's ethics and passion for helping people with their animals is what keeps Mrs Bishop going. She has her dog Pippin and daughter by her side.

“I love what I do,” she said.

With a choice of treats ranging in a range of prices it wasn’t hard to get a brilliant selection for my dog for just £1.50.

P&J

Finally, I went to P&J which is a delicatessen that recently moved from the back to the front of the Butter Market, to the end near the clock tower.

“It has been a brilliant move, and it has increased the footfall,” said staff member Jenny Daw.

A cheddar with hops, made in Herefordshire, took my eye here, for £2.50 for 100g.
