A HEREFORDSHIRE businessman wants to make money on his own funeral after he featured on a Channel 4 programme.

Luke Conod owner of the Swan Inn, in Letton, and his best friend Heather Gorringe starred in Four in a Bed.

Ms Gorringe described Mr Conod as a transit van because he “never lets you down”.

He said Mr Gorringe is a “reliable source of honesty”, whether he likes it or not, making them a good team for the programme.

The Swan Inn is a 400-year-old coaching inn, and he took it over last April in 2021.

RELATED NEWS:

It was previously derelict, and he invested between £500,000 and £700,000, that will take around 10 years to pay back, said Mr Conod.

He called himself a “newbie”.

Guests enjoyed the continental breakfast made of Herefordshire items, but one or two wanted a hot option.

“We are a small business, and it is important that at the end of each year we make a profit,” said Mr Conod.

“It doesn’t stack up when you have five rooms to have a chef in the kitchen cooking and someone waiting.

“To make our business sustainable, a continental breakfast works.”

OTHER NEWS:

He also owns the School Uniform Shop, in St Peters Street, Hereford., and the pair described themselves as e-commerce businesspeople.

Guests commented, throughout the week’s episodes, on how business minded” Mr Conod came across.

Mr Conod wants to have his funeral before he dies and make it a yearly event, so he can make money from his wake.

“I would love to have my funeral before I die,” he said.

“I don’t think there would be anything wrong with me booking in for next year my funeral tea, because if you think about it at the pub, it would be a nice little earner wouldn’t it, and then you could make it a yearly event,” he said.

“You’re definitely business minded,” said one guest in response to this.

“The guy is trying to cash in on his own death essentially,” said the same guest to camera after their tour.
