HUNDREDS of patients were left waiting 12 hours or more for admission to hospital in Herefordshire over the last 12 months.
Data from the NHS reveals that there were 68,329 A&E attendances in Herefordshire from the start of October 2021 to the end of September 2022.
The vast majority of patients, some 41,262, were admitted, transferred, or discharged within four hours of their arrival at A&E.
But 27,067 were left waiting more than four hours to be admitted, transferred, or discharged, the data revealed.
The figures also revealed that a total of 16,095 emergency admissions were made via A&E, while 4,665 emergency admissions were made by other means.
Of those, 5,743 emergency admissions were admitted more than four hours after a decision was made to admit them, while 3,182 were admitted more than 12 hours after a decision was made to admit them.
The figures reveal that the number of emergency admissions waiting four hours or more has remained fairly steady over the last 12 months, with the most patients, 566, waiting more than four hours in March.
This was also the month with the most emergency admissions waiting 12 hours or more, with 390 recorded.
The greatest number of emergency admissions was, however, in July, with 1,908 emergency admissions made, while the greatest number of A&E attendances was in June, with 6,102 attendances.
National targets state that at least 95 per cent of patients should be admitted, transferred, or discharged within four hours of arrival at A&E.
