Meet just four of the 630 firefighters across Herefordshire and Worcestershire which work day and night to keep the two counties safe.

Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service has 25 fire stations with 41 fire engines which it says are strategically located across the two counties.

They are staffed by a mix of ‘wholetime’ firefighters – operating on a full-time basis and providing an immediate response – and on-call firefighters who work and live in their local communities and respond to emergency calls whenever they are needed, usually mobilising within six minutes of receiving a call.

All stations respond to calls 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with Hereford the only wholetime station in Herefordshire.

All the remaining stations are staffed by on-call firefighters.

The service, which has nearly 10,000 emergency calls each year, has about 250 wholetime firefighters and 380 on-call firefighters, supported by some 20 fire control staff and about 100 support staff. It also hosts one of 29 national urban search and rescue specialist units.
