HOT weather has been blamed for a Herefordshire town having a disappointingly tiny Christmas tree.

Ledbury Town Council said the tree, dwarfed by the Market House where it is stood, might seem smaller than in previous years.

A spokesperson said the council didn't believe the tree was the size it ordered, but it was too late to reject.

"Following a number of comments being received in respect of the Christmas tree in High Street, Ledbury Town Council has now sourced an alternative tree," a spokesperson said.

They said the council had been told there had been a shortage of "very large" trees this year due to the drought and hot weather conditions in the summer.

Outside the Market House in High Street there will now be a 23ft tree, which should "complement the display of Christmas lights around the town".

The existing tree will be removed on Wednesday morning (December 7), and the new tree installed and decorated with lights early on Thursday (December 8).
