A KEEN photographer from Herefordshire has captured more amazing pictures of parachutes at Shobdon Airfield, near Leominster.

Tom Pennington enjoyed a sunny afternoon at the airfield where he saw the small group of camouflaged parachutists drop over the north Herefordshire countryside.

RELATED NEWS:

While it's not clear who the parachutists were, they made the solo descent.

The pictures from Mr Pennington, who is a member of the Hereford Times Camera Club Facebook group, showed the people landing on the grass at the airfield.

Hereford has a rich history in skydiving and parachuting with the Hereford Parachute Club formed in 1963 by the 22nd SAS Regiment at the request of locals who wanted to start the sport in the area.

OTHER NEWS:

The club successfully operated part-time until 1976 when it changed over to full-time operation and continued to do so until it finished operations at Shobdon in 1990 and moved to Staverton Airfield in Gloucester and operated a split drop zone.

This was a part-time operation again until it finally closed its doors in 1992.

Keen photographers, like Mr Pennington, and planespotters regularly head to the airfield with a café on site and other facilities for visitors.

There is even a Facebook group where enthusiasts can discuss goings on at the airfield, which is open from 9am until 5pm seven days a week.
