TRIBUTE has been paid to a Herefordshire veteran who played a "fundamental" role in saving the river Wye.
Major Patrick Darling died on October 10 and a memorial in his honour took place in Hereford Cathedral.
Major Darling was a trustee of the Wye and Usk Foundation for 17 years and was fundamental in driving forward the farm advisory projects in the Lower Wye, said a spokesperson from the foundation.
The foundation is concerned with ecology and more specifically, restoring the habitat, water quality and fisheries of the rivers Wye and Usk.
