Plans to create four “studio apartments” on a busy Hereford street have been put forward.
In the latest move to convert underused properties in the city centre into homes, Adam Billig of Eign Street Ltd of Birmingham has applied to turn an existing flat above the former Munch Inn on Eign Gate into four, each of one bedroom.
The current two-bedroom flat over the upper two floors “is not desirable or financially viable in its current form” as Eign Gate “does not appeal to the small family”, his application says, explaining why it is “currently vacant and in a poor state”.

The four proposed apartments would each have about 20 square metres of floor space.
They would “be marketed to individuals on low incomes who do not necessarily have a car requiring vehicle parking, nor do they need open green space immediately on their doorstep for entertaining infants”, the application says, adding that cycle storage is “not an option” at the property.
The exterior of the turn-of-the-century building, which also has access to the rear onto West Street via a courtyard, would remain unchanged.
Comments on the application, numbered 223249, can be made until January 20.
