TWO Herefordshire drivers have been fined by magistrates after they were caught using their phones while driving on busy main roads.

David James Lewis was proven guilty of one offence by magistrates in Worcester in January.

The court heard that the 37-year-old defendant had been caught out using a handheld mobile phone while behind the wheel of a Volkswagen on the A4110 near Leominster on August 4.

Lewis, of Middlemarsh in Leominster, Herefordshire, was fined £220 for the offence, while his driving licence was endorsed with six penalty points.

He was also ordered to pay costs of £90 and an £88 victim surcharge.

Samuel Arthur Alan Symonds was proven guilty of one offence by magistrates in Worcester in January.

The court heard that the 27-year-old had been caught using a handheld mobile phone while driving a Ford on the A49 in Hereford on July 11.

Symonds, of Meadow Close, Hereford, was fined £220 and received six penalty points for the offence.

He must also pay costs of £90 and an £88 victim surcharge.
