A HISTORIC Herefordshire pub with 16th century roots has been put up for sale.

The Live and Let Live in Whitbourne, on the Herefordshire and Worcestershire border, is on the market with agents Sidney Phillips.

The pub, which has a characterful interior including exposed beams and open fireplaces, is being marketed with an asking price of £399,500.

The agents said the village pub has two bars with space for 50, alongside a 36-cover restaurant.

Set in 0.48 of an acre, the property includes gardens and car parking.

In a message posted to customers on social media, the current owners said the pub is running well again and is ready for someone to take over the reins.

"I hope whoever buys it will have as much fun as we have," they said.

"Thanks to the people of Whitbourne."

The pub had been at the centre of a controversy after a previous landlord was banned from being the pub's designated supervisor after he hit a customer with a baseball bat.

Herefordshire Council's licensing sub-committee heard in July 2021 that a row had broken out between the Live Inn in Whitbourne's landlord Nicholas Emile John Western-Kaye and a customer on December 24, 2020, with police called after Western-Kaye assaulted a customer with a baseball bat.

The incident had been sparked by a row over a bar tab.

The pub later closed on October 28 last year before selling garden equipment, drills, furniture, glasses and more to locals.

But the closure was short lived, with the Live and Let Live reopening under new management on December 17.

Since reopening, it has been offering popular quiz nights, and a dine-in and takeaway menu featuring pizzas, curries, baguettes and paninis.
