I AM one of the contributors to the council’s £50k collected in parking fines in Union Street, Hereford (herefordtimes.com, February 9).
I am a volunteer driver for Dore Community Transport.
Recently, I was driving a blind passenger who had mobility problems with his guide dog and he needed to go to Nationwide, Commercial Street.
OTHER LETTERS:
- Hereford's traffic now is worse than before the new bridge was built
- Green plans for Herefordshire offer 'much to celebrate'
- Hereford's traffic is a nightmare – and Lidl will make it even worse
The nearest a vehicle can get is Union Street, and then a walk along Union Passage, which was not too painful for him. All the disabled bays were full in Union Street so I parked my clearly marked charity vehicle in the loading bay displaying a blue badge.
I returned 25 minutes later to a parking fine. I appealed and told my story, but the result was the appeal was denied. The council said my passenger should have had a longer, more painful walk.
A caring council and poorer driver.
