The court heard that the 44-year-old had imported a prohibited weapon, namely a butterfly knife, with intent to evade the prohibition in force by virtue of the Restriction of Offensive Weapons Act 1959 in Ross-on-Wye on August 4 last year.
The case was adjourned for a pre-sentencing report to be carried out by the probation service and Stephens, who was represented by defence solicitor Dean Hicks and who is of Woodedge, Ross-on-Wye, was released on unconditional bail.
Stephens will appear before magistrates in Hereford for sentencing on April 25.
