The court heard from prosecutor Paul John that the 29-year-old had, knowing that payment was required on the spot for goods supplied, made off from a garage in Leominster without making payment and intending to avoid payment of £70.03 for diesel.
Sutton, who was represented at the hearing by defence solicitor Chris Read and who is of Dry Thistle Close in Bromyard, was ordered to pay compensation of £70, with magistrates saying that they had taken his guilty plea into account when deciding on the penalty.
He was also ordered to pay prosecution costs of £135.
