There could soon be a new takeaway in the historic heart of Hereford.

Leicestershire-based DPM (Design Project Management) Services has applied on behalf of “Bistro 61” for permission to convert 61 Commercial Street, near the city’s famous Black & White House, into a takeaway restaurant with a seating area inside and on the pedestrianised street in front.

The current office and storeroom on the first floor would be converted into a “manager’s bedsit flat”, while the second floor would be retained as a staff kitchen and toilets, submitted plans show.

It is not yet clear what sort of cuisine Bistro 61 will be offering.

The premises, which appears to have been vacant for at least a year, was most recently home to Mobile Fix, before which it was tReds, a footwear shop. Estate agent Sunderlands advertised it last summer for a £25,000 yearly lease.

As the building is grade II listed, consent must also be given for planned internal alterations and a new shopfront, consisting of recessed hinged folding double-glazed aluminium doors.

OTHER NEWS:

With the change to food production, an extraction flue from the proposed new kitchen would be installed to the rear, “which will be hidden from the main aesthetic elevations”, a statement with the application says.

If approved, the business would employ three full-time and two part-time staff, the application says.

Comments on the application for planning permission, numbered 231457, and for listed building consent, numbered 231535, can be made until July 6.
