THE whole service of household waste needs to be looked at.
This week I decided to dispose of several tins of old paint that were a mixture of oil-based and water-based.
My nearest tip, Ross-on-Wye, says it only takes water-based, so I had to book in at Hereford, which meant an extra 10 miles of travel!
When I arrived I asked where to take the oil-based paint and was told to put it in the ‘general waste’. I questioned this but was told that it was right. So why couldn’t I take it to Ross and put it in the general waste there?

In today’s world we are encouraged to recycle. It is heart-breaking to see items being thrown away, including new ones still in unopened packaging.
However, you can’t take anything out of the bins (health and safety) but also you are not allowed to hang around and offer to take other people’s items.
The current set-up and rules do NOT encourage recycling.
What happened to the idea that one person’s rubbish could be someone else’s treasure?
