HEREFORDSHIRE is waking up to heavy rain this morning, with a Met Office weather warning in force for the county.
The yellow warning for thunderstorms came into force at 4.39am today (June 20) and will remain in force until 10.30am.
Weather warning
Forecasters said an area of heavy rain and thunderstorms will move northeastwards during Tuesday morning.
Many places within the warning area will see 10 to 20 mm of rain in one hour, but a smaller corridor of torrential rain, bringing up to 40 mm in one to two hours will hit some areas, accompanied by frequent lightning and gusty winds, the Met Office said.
Transport disruption
Heavy rain and thunderstorms are likely to lead to some transport disruption on Tuesday morning, the Met Office said.
Spray and sudden flooding could cause difficult driving conditions and road closure, with a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services.
Hereford weather forecast
A wet morning with outbreaks of heavy rain will turn drier in the afternoon, with some sunny spells and possibly isolated showers and a maximum temperature of 22 °C, forecasters said.
Tonight will be dry and mild, with possible mist and fog patches and a minimum temperature of 12 °C.
Bright weather will make a return on Wednesday, with scattered showers, potentially turning thundery, during the afternoon and a maximum temperature of 23 °C.
The Met Office said temperatures will rise through the end of the week, with predominantly fine weather with sunny intervals, although the odd shower is possible.
