A COMMUNITY on the Herefordshire border is set to get a new bespoke playground and outdoor space thanks to £84,000 in grants.
Gladestry village hall has been awarded funding from the National Lottery and other supporters to transform its existing play area.
Old Radnor councillor Edward Jones said: “These generous grants will enable us to provide colourful, challenging and exciting new play opportunities for children of all ages and an improved space for everyone to enjoy.”
Volunteers worked together to submit applications to various funding sources. The largest donation came from the National Lottery who awarded the play area £69,000. The rest of the funding was secured from Tarmac and the Welsh government’s All Wales Play Opportunities Grant.
Children and other residents of the village have contributed to the plans by sharing their ideas for how the new play area should look and how it should be used.

The new area will include covered seating, picnic benches, fencing, surfacing and six new pieces of play equipment to suit all ages and abilities.
The work, which began on June 12, is being completed by Dragon Play and Sports Ltd. The new equipment has now arrived for installation and is expected to be finished by the summer holidays, giving the children in the area somewhere new to play over the break.
The opening of the playground is planned for July 8, subject to weather and the work being fully completed.
