TRACTORS from Herefordshire and beyond gathered in Wales at the weekend for a road run in memory of an East Wales and Border Vintage Enthusiasts club member after his death last year.

The July 2 run, held in memory of Charlie Collett, attracted 40 participants from as far afield as Bridgnorth, Glamorgan, Herefordshire and Monmouthshire.

The run started from the Pandy Showfield at Blaengavenny Farm, Llanvihangel Crucorney, by kind permission of Mr and Mrs David Probert.

It had attracted a number of David Brown tractors as this was Mr Collett’s favourite make and in the 4x4s even a vintage Jeep took part.

The club selected two very worthy charities to raise money for; Cancer Research UK and Mind Monmouthshire.

After a welcome tea or coffee, Ian Pugh the route plotter led the procession of tractors and 4x4s, turning left out of the field to travel the old Hereford Road.

They headed along this to the outskirts of Abergavenny, passing the Sugar Loaf Vineyards to climb up the steep hairpinned hill to the Sugar Loaf to pick up a farm track to drop down to Llangenny.

It then turned right to parade up through the village of Llangenny and onto Llanbedr before picking up the Grwyne Fawr valley.

Lunch was taken at Harry Pugh’s farm before it was off again towards Partrishow, going off road again to Forest Coalpit then on to Cwmyoy, taking in a stretch of common ground to head back to the show field.

A club spokesperson said everyone agreed what a great run it had been in memory of Mr Collett, and that he would have enjoyed every moment of it.
