A SPEEDER has escaped a roads ban due to the effect it would have on family members.

Cray Daniel Wells appeared before magistrates in Worcester in June after he was convicted of one count of exceeding a 50 miles per hour speed limit at an earlier hearing in April.

The court heard from the prosecutor that the 32-year-old had been caught breaking the limit while behind the wheel of a Ford in a 50 miles per hour zone on the A40 at Pencraig in Herefordshire on October 5.

He has been clocked speeding by manned camera equipment, magistrates were told.

Wells, of New Pool Road, Cradley Heath, was fined £120 and received three penalty points.

He was also ordered to pay prosecution costs of £110 and a £48 victim surcharge.

No totting disqualification was made as, magistrates said, a roads ban would result in loss of employment which would cause hardship to a family member as he would not be able to pay rent or bills and would lose his accommodation, and to a second family member, who relies on him to do her shopping and provide care.
