ANYONE who remembers back to when the fishmonger was on corner of Bridge Street will remember all the other independent shops.
Hereford was packed with small shops, plus Chadd’s department store, of course.
The Butter Market really was exactly that. Fresh local produce on cheaply rented trestle tables.

Of course, time marches on. No Amazon back then, but look at Chester or Abergavenny.
Successive useless councils have lost Hereford somewhere.
Hopefully, the present one can get the power to turn the tide? The bypass is about 50 years overdue.
