TO say thank you to the NHS for 75 years of amazing service, the Hereford Times has helped deliver 500 cupcakes to Hereford County Hospital.
In collaboration with TPG Disable Aids and Mandy's Home Bakery in Worcester, the treats were given to staff and volunteers today (Wednesday), with special deliveries also being made to ensure staff in the Trust’s three community hospitals in Ross, Leominster and Bromyard didn’t miss out.
In Thursday's paper, there is an eight-page supplement marking the special occasion, with TPD Disable Aids being the headline sponsor.
Jayme Bacon, head of sales at TPG Disable Aids, said: "Thank you to the NHS for all you do, for you support, your compassion and your dedication.
"You are what makes Britain great.”
Staff also received a special birthday card with the well-known “These are the Hands” poem by Michael Rosen on one side, and a thank you message from the Trust’s management team on the other.
Meanwhile, those working in Ross celebrated with an afternoon tea party sponsored by local businesses and organisations, with a choir entertaining patients, relatives and staff.
To round off the celebrations this week, dozens of WVT staff will be putting on their running shoes to take part in the Park Run at Hereford Leisure Centre on Saturday morning (July 8).
Jane Ives, managing director at WVT, said: “It is a testament to the vision and determination of those who founded the NHS that in the post war period, in very difficult financial circumstances for the country, the health of the population was prioritised.
"It is a precious legacy that our generation has the responsibility to care for so we can hand it on to the generations of the future.
“As we mark the 75 year milestone today I want to express my gratitude to everyone. I’m proud to work alongside such an amazing team of professionals.”
