HAVING read Sir Bill Wiggin’s comments in the Hereford Times with regards to the refugee people, I am glad that at long last he recognises that austerity has run down our infrastructures.
It’s pleasing to note that it is the arrival of these people that has made him realise the damage that his government has done.
Thanks to the splendid efforts of the voluntary groups such as the Robert Owen Society, the City of Sanctuary, the churches and the diocese, HVOSS as well as the managers at SERCO, the refugee people in Hereford have integrated well and have added value to our Hereford community.

Among some of the positive outcomes has been integration into local sporting clubs and schools, inter-faith worship, voluntary community work and a sharing of their unique cultural backgrounds. The support and contributions from the Herefordshire community to the refugees has been absolutely overwhelming, and we thank them. This is our Herefordshire people at their best.
We must never lose sight, that these are human beings fleeing from oppression, war, famine and terrorism.
So, come on Sir Bill, encourage our wonderful Leominster community to embrace these refugee people and encourage your own government to invest in our Herefordshire communities.
