Welsh Marches Express train to pass through Herefordshire

AN ICONIC steam train will pass through Herefordshire tomorrow (July 27).

The Welsh Marches Express 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley will be on its way to Shrewsbury, using an immaculately restored engine.

Saphos Trains, the company running the tour, said: “Traversing the breath-taking beauty of the Welsh Marches route our steam train offers a totally unique day out as we travel through the rolling hills of the pretty Shropshire countryside dividing England and Wales.

“Passing through the Severn Tunnel we take the fast line to Newport where we cross the river Usk and continue through the historic city of Hereford.”

Saphos Trains will use the Royal Scot, Braunton or Britannia to haul the train.

Tickets start at £165, but even if you’re not climbing aboard, there will still be chances to see the train pass by.

Times the steam train will be in Herefordshire

According to realtimetrains.com, the express will get into Hereford at 11.13am after passing Pontrilas at 10.57am and Tram Inn at 11.03am.

It will then pass through Shelwick at 12.06pm, Moreton-on-Lugg at 12.09pm, Leominster at 12.18pm and Woofferton at 12.25pm.

The train It will get into Shrewsbury at 1.32pm, where passengers can enjoy an afternoon in the town exploring the castle, spires, abbey and medieval houses, walking beside the river, taking a boat trip, and unwinding in the parkland.

Two hours later, the express will return through Woofferton at 4.32pm, Leominster at 4.39pm, Moreton-on-Lugg at 4.48pm, Shelwick at 4.53pm, Hereford at 4.56pm, Tram Inn at 5.41pm and Pontrilas at 5.47pm.

It will arrive back in Bristol at 7.23pm.
