TRAIN enthusiasts got a chance to see an iconic steam train yesterday (Thursday) as it passed through Herefordshire.
The 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley was in Hereford for around 45 minutes during the morning before it continued its journey to Shrewsbury.
It then left Shropshire later in the afternoon on its return trip to High Wycombe.
The train is named in honour of Sir Nigel Gresley, who was one of Britain's most famous steam locomotive engineers.
Some of his most prominent designs were the LNER Class A1 and LNER Class A4 4-6-2 Pacific engines. An A1 Pacific, Flying Scotsman, was the first steam locomotive officially recorded over 100mph in passenger service, and an A4, number 4468 Mallard, still holds the record for being the fastest steam locomotive in the world after clocking 126mph.
Saphos Trains ran the tour yesterday, with the train starting in High Wycombe, where it originates, before roaring through the Welsh Marches.
