LOCALS are hopeful that a popular Hereford pub could reopen next week after shutters were removed from the building.
The Volunteer Inn has been closed for the past three months, with it being boarded up and monitored by a security company.
The Harold Street pub is one of the few remaining 'back-street watering holes' in the city and attracted many regulars.

Known locally as 'The Volly', the pub was particularly renowned for its Sunday roasts, which included a giant Yorkshire pudding, while skittle competitions, quizzes, live bands and history and walking group events were also held there.
Last April, Star Pub & Bars, the pub business of Heineken UK that owns the premises, confirmed that the pub had closed after it was leased to an independent operator to run as their own business.
Minor damage was subsequently caused to some doors, leading it the pub being secured.
However, last month, the brewery said it would reopen in mid-July under temporary management while it identified a suitable person to lease it and review possible options for upgrading the pub.
It is understood that the pub hasn't reopened yet, but locals have heard it could welcome back punters next week.
The Hereford Times has contacted Star Pub & Bars for confirmation.
