THE brewery that runs a popular Hereford pub has confirmed when it will be reopening.

The Volunteer Inn has been closed for the past three months, with it being boarded up and monitored by a security company.

The Harold Street pub is one of the few remaining 'back-street watering holes' in the city and attracted many regulars.

Known locally as 'The Volly', the pub was particularly renowned for its Sunday roasts, which included a giant Yorkshire pudding, while skittle competitions, quizzes, live bands and history and walking group events were also held there.

OTHER NEWS:

Last April, Star Pubs & Bars, the pub business of Heineken UK that owns the premises, confirmed that the pub had closed after it was leased to an independent operator to run as their own business.

Minor damage was subsequently caused to some doors, leading to the pub being secured.

However, it is now ready to be reopened.

A spokmesperson for Star Pubs & Bars said: “We are getting the Volunteer Inn ready to reopen under temporary management in a couple of weeks.

"We are working on plans for a refurbishment to be implemented ideally in 2024 once a licensee has been found to take the Volunteer Inn forward. Anyone who wants to find out more about taking over the Volunteer Inn should call our recruitment team on 08085 949596.”
