Emergency services were called to an address in Cottons Meadow, Kingstone at around 5.10pm on Saturday (August 5).
A 58-year-old woman was taken to hospital, but sadly died.
A man, also aged 58, was later arrested on suspicion of murder and taken to police custody.
A police cordon was placed outside the property, with officers on guard yesterday (August 6).
In a statement released yesterday, Detective Chief Inspector Gareth Lougher said: "Our thoughts are with the family of the woman who sadly lost her life.
“I understand that incidents of this nature can be alarming but would like to reassure the local community that there is no wider risk to the public.
