A HEREFORD SAS wife has completed an remarkable challenge to mark her 80th birthday.
Maggie Matthews, who decided to complete 800,000 steps, swim 80,000 metres and cycle 800 kilometres all in time for the milestone birthday, concluded her endeavour on August 18 at the Hereford Leisure Pool café.
Mrs Matthews exceeded her goals in all areas, finishing with a total of 1,070,408 steps, 80,200 metres swam and 828.5 kilometres on the bike.

Her challenge has now raised over £2300 for local charities.
“Thank you to so many people with such generous support," said Mrs Matthews.
"I was inspired by the members of Herefordshire Mind which has evolved over the years, now offering housing, community and crisis support as well as counselling and day activities including art and music.
“Carers are another close to my heart. Saving the government billions of pounds a year by their selfless and heroic devotion deserving of the 'time out' that Carer’s of Herefordshire offer in the shape of crafts, gardening, walking and friendship.”
