A diversified Herefordshire farm intends to start hosting “community gatherings”, offering guests beer and wine made on the farm.

Ben Taylor-Davies of Townsend Farm, Brampton Abbotts near Ross-on-Wye has applied for a licence to sell alcohol and play live and recorded music on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings.

This will enable the farm “to hold community gatherings, supplying regenerative-produced food on our farm, also the wine from our vineyard and beer from our brewery”, his application says.

The exact venue for these “will be weather-dependent”, with live folk music “sometimes” put on, it says, adding: “It’s not your standard pub.”

As well as its winery and micro-brewery, the Motley Hog, the farm is already home to a mini-farm shop in a horse box, and serves as a wedding venue and glamping site.

Comments on Mr Taylor-Davies’ licensing application can be made until September 5.
