Headteachers across the county are also delighted.

The head of Aylestone School, Mr Simon Robertson, said: “We are incredibly proud of all our students who have achieved extremely well. They maintained their focus and commitment to achieve the excellent grades they have and deserve a huge amount of praise.

"There were so many individual successes and positive stories that we believe it unfair to highlight individuals, but the breadth of courses offered at the school and the high grades achieved by the students means they are able to progress into further education with confidence.

“The students should be rightly proud of their achievements, they have worked incredibly hard. I’m sure they will be the first to say that they’ve had wonderful support from their parents and carers and from the staff at Aylestone. With these fantastic results, they can be excited about their future.”

Weobley High School's headteacher, Mr Dean Williams, was also pleased for his year 11 students, commenting: “This cohort of students have had to remain resilient and focussed to achieve this impressive set of results, particularly against the backdrop of disruption and increased GCSE boundaries.

"Their hard work has paid off and I wish them all the best as they now progress into further education and training.

"I would also like to thank the staff for their incredible hard work in supporting the students to achieve these grades. They are determined that every student will achieve their potential and their dedication is second to none!”

Head of Wigmore School, Mr Rob Patterson, said:

"Wigmore High School is delighted to report outstanding achievement by their students in the GCSE qualifications this year. Wigmore performed well above national pass marks, with 83 per cent of grades achieved at a pass (grade 4) or better.

"75 per cent of students achieved grade 4 or better in English and maths and 48 per cent of students achieved the same benchmark at grade 5. Over 94 per cent of our Year 11 students achieved a grade 4 or better in English and 82 per cent of students did the same in at least two sciences. There were outstanding performances in a number of subjects with over 90 per cent of students passing their art and design, ICT, business, French, religious studies and Spanish courses, many with top grades.

"We are immensely proud of all the work and achievements of our students who had so much of their school experience impacted by the coronavirus pandemic. Our teachers have gone above and beyond as usual to ensure students are able to progress onto further education and study, and we look forward to seeing what they will achieve in the future.”

Headteacher of Bishop of Hereford's Bluecoat School, Mr Martin Henton, said: “We are delighted with the success and grades achieved by our students.

"They have worked so hard and deserve the success they have achieved, we are incredibly proud of them.

"The majority of students have realised their potential in the grades they have achieved and will now be starting the next part of their chosen learning journey.

"I would like to make a special mention about those students who joined us in very challenging circumstances from Ukraine who have gained some incredible grades. Staff and students have worked tirelessly to achieve this.

"The school has undergone a substantial amount of change in recent years with a continual drive for improvement. We are now over-subscribed and continue to go from strength to strength."
