FIREFIGHTERS tackled a house fire in Hereford for over eight hours yesterday (September 20).

Three engines - two from Hereford and one from Fownhope - were called to Hampton Dene Road shortly before 11.45am.

A garage attached to the two-storey semi-detached house was well alight with the fire fought using three hosereel jets, with two firefighters using breathing apparatus.

The inside of the home, including the roof space, was heavily smoke-logged. Cadent and National Grid are also in attendance, with police also requested to attend.

A small stretch of the road opposite Hampton Dene Primary School was closed while the fire was being tackled. It was extinguished with gas, electric and hot-air central heating system isolated in the property.

A fogging lance, which is a nozzle designed to enable firefighters access to hard to reach areas, was used to cool off the wall cavity, while some light smoke in the roof space was also tacked.

The final crew eventually left the scene at just after 8.15pm. However, a reinspection took place at 11pm when the house and adjoining garage were checked for hotspots using a thermal image camera.

With none found, the incident was marked as closed shortly before 11.50pm.
