Network Rail added: “We are sorry for the disruption caused by the overrunning engineering to replace track, including in the 170-year-old Dinmore Tunnel, but broken-down engineering machinery meant we were unable to finish work in time.

“Tickets are being accepted on numerous operators, including via Birmingham.

“The engineering work is expected to finish today with the railway reopening tomorrow. We advise all passengers to check before they travel.”

Some rail replacement services may be available on a limited basis, so passengers are being urged to only travel if essential.
