CROWDS of people flocked to Hereford Fire Station yesterday (September 23) for its open day.
Youngsters were able to ride in a fire engine, with round trips from the St Owen Street site to the Rose & Crown pub in Ledbury Road.
They were also allowed to site on a blood bike, which provides a rapid response medical transport service to the NHS, and see the fire rescue boat.
Various demonstrations took place from 10am to 4pm, including a rescue display using the aerial ladder platform at Hereford that is one of two across Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service (HWFRS).
Youngsters were also able to use a hose reel jet as they knocked down some targets, while they could sit in a police car, with West Mercia Police offering support throughout the day.
Elsewhere, the HWFRS prevention team were on hand to pass on fire safety advice, while there was a chance a learn more about on-call recruitment.
Watch commander Rob Purdie said: "It was a chance for us to meet the community and give them an insight into what we do on a day-to-day basis.
“We let them know about everything we can offer here, including home fire safety visits. Young budding firefighters will be able to live the life of a firefighter for the day.”
Food and refreshments, including an ice cream van, was also available, with all proceeds on the day going towards The Firefighters Charity.
