HEREFORDSHIRE firefighters helped rescue a horse from a river at the weekend.
A large animal rescue team from Bromyard Fire Station, along with a fire crew from Upton upon Severn and a rescue boat crew from Evesham Fire Station were all called at 9.42am last Sunday (October 1) to rescue the animal from the River Severn in Severn Stoke.

The horse had slipped down the riverbank and was unable to get back up as it was too steep.
A boat was launched from Upton Marina and the horse was quickly located.
The crew was able to get close enough to secure an animal rescue harness on the horse and then guided him downstream to a point of safety before bringing him onto dry land.
The RSPCA and an equine vet were requested to attend, and the vet carried out an assessment of the horse, finding that its health and welfare were in good order he was released into a field with other horses.
