HEREFORDSHIRE’S pub of the season has been named.
The Chequers in Leominster has been crowned the Hereford branch of the campaign for real ale’s autumn pub of the season.
CAMRA voters selected the pub for its cosy and warm atmosphere, aided by the large roaring fire that is often blazing in the bars open fireplace.

They also praised the Chequers’ range of beers, singling out its Wye Valley Hopfather, stout, bitter, Hereford pale ale and butty bach as particular favourites.
Another draw was the pubs outside terrace, with its hanging baskets, pot plants and large, heated, oak framed shelter which means that locals can enjoy a pint outdoors no matter the weather.
The Chequers is Wye Valley Brewery’s oldest pub, dating back to at least the 16th Century, with possible earlier origins. The grade 2 listed, timber-framed building houses two bars, three rooms that are open to the public and the stable room which is available for private hire.
