A BMW driver has been banned from the roads for more than three years after he was caught out while more than twice the limit on the A49 in Hereford.

Julian Vaughan entered a guilty plea to one count of driving a motor vehicle while over the alcohol limit when he appeared before magistrates in Hereford in October.

The court heard from prosecutor Mark Hambling that the 47-year-old had been caught out in Hereford's Belmont Road after getting behind the wheel of a BMW while over the drink-driving limit on August 27.

An evidential breath test revealed that he had 91 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

Vaughan, of Wormbridge, Herefordshire, was fined £961 and disqualified from driving for 40 months for the offence, with magistrates saying that they had taken his guilty plea into account when imposing the penalty.

He was also ordered to pay prosecution costs of £135 and a £384 victim surcharge, which is used to help fund services supporting victims of crime.
